O mesmo deputado ao STL (30/10) solicitou o Estado para demitir o actual Procurador Geral da República porque Longuinhos Monteiro era incapaz resolver os casos de corrupção no país.

Not that this is the Church's role, but because in 2005 the Church showed an intention to provoke instability to achieve its own political goals at the expense of the people.

Bishop Basilio seems to have forgotten the demonstration, which the Church organised in 2005. The Church organised a public demonstration with the objective of provoking chaos to achieve its demands. The Church planned to bring down Catholics from all over the country to demand the Government change its policy on the teaching of religion at public schools. In the end the demonstration turned into a demand for the Government's resignation.

In the demonstration, which was helped by a criminal former-militia thug, Rui Lopes, the Church encouraged the demonstrators to bring statues of Virgin Mary to the frontline. Then the demonstrators provoked the police, the PNTL, for confrontation. Had the PNTL responded to the provocations, they would have to go pass the fragile statues, breaking them. If the statues were damaged or broken, this would cause the demonstrators to react violently and chaos and more violence would erupt. The Church would then use this as an argument to convince other Catholics all over the country to join the demonstration. This would weaken the Government and could force it to stand down. The Church's objectives would be realized. The Church would use the fall of the Government as an example for other politicians who dare to stand up to the Church. The Church would then gain more power over the State, keeping a tight grip on the State. The State will do whatever the Church wants just like the Taliban’s in Afghanistan or the Islamic Mullahs in Iran.

The demonstrators were praying during the demonstration but at the same time they were using all kinds of expletives, verbally abusing anyone who did not agree with their action. They prayed in an effort to fool others to think of the demonstration as a spiritual act, and that God was on their side. They were no different from the Islamic fundamentalists who committed violence and killed in the name of God. Could God really be on their side? What kind of Catholic Church would act so shamefully as this?

But, as if this weren't enough, finally the Church sent its priests on a mission to the Timorese army, the F-FDTL, to invite them to stage a coup against the State. Luck being on Timor-Leste's side, the F-FDTL officers were too patriotic and disciplined to fall for such mistake. The attempted coup failed.

The most incredible note on the 2005 demonstration is that the Church was willing to sacrifice the country and the people in order to get its demands met. Timor-Leste was peaceful and stable. Investors were slowly coming in. Backpackers were streaming into the country, to Baucau, Bobonaro and Same. But this was of no interest to the Church. The Church's interest was how to it can control Timor-Leste, politically, economically, socially and culturally. The Church wanted to provoke instability to bring down the government. It didn't care the consequences that its followers would get if the country were plunged into crisis and instability. The Church tried to encourage villagers from outside of Dili to join; to bring up the number of demonstrators, laying to them that the Government wanted to ban the existence of religion in Timor-Leste. The demonstration, which lasted nearly three weeks, brought no benefit to anyone, not the Church followers, not the State. This is all the Catholic Church's doing just to advance its own agenda.

Today Bishop Basilio is criticizing the Peace March, which a political organization is planning to hold. If the Church wants to provide its opinion on this issue, it should at least recognize and take some responsibility for its actions in 2005, that this action was irresponsible and should not have come from an institution, which claims that it has the highest moral and spiritual authority in Timor-Leste.
